The Light That Stayed

This book was born from dream and tide,
where memory whispers, where truths reside.
Each joy, each loss, a thread, a seam,
woven together in song and dream.
The poems are fragments, part shadow, part light,
meant to guide you through day, through night.
May they awaken your own heart’s sight,
and lead you always back to your light.
Yellowstone/Teton Adventure
Miles and miles we drove cross country, chasing dreams and open skies.
Low country grasses, to sweeping plains, a shifting world before our eyes.
Rolling hills turned steeper still, the landscape climbing, wild and wide.
With cracking ears and hearts in awe, we curved along the mountainside.
It’s strange, I’ve flown through clouds before, but never felt this near to grace.
Each mile a whispered miracle, each bend revealed God’s face
No photograph could quite contain, the grandeur wrapped in sky and stone.
And I’m not sure my memory's can hold it all alone.
You walked beside the towering peaks, wildflowers dancing at your feet.
My heart bowed softly when you turned, and winked at me so sweet.
It felt like something long ago, though, this land was fresh and new.
A spark, a glow, a sacred thread, of how I first, fell for you.
Your face framed by the snowy caps, a springtime gift so rare and true,
Butterflies stirred deep inside, just watching you, come into view.
Your smile lit up the mountain air, I breathed the scent of bloom and pine,
The wind played gently with my hair, and time stood still, sublime.
You reached for me and squeezed my hand. We walked in step, in perfect pace,
Exchanging glances, quiet laughs, enchanted with that place.
Waterfalls and winding roads, a bison herd too vast to name,
Each moment etched into our hearts, never, to be the same.
We traveled long in peaceful hush, words weren't needed much that day.
We found the park’s small welcome stop, wandered in without delay.
Turquoise earrings caught my eye, you noticed, bought them with a grin,
A perfect gem, a keepsake bright, of where our hearts had been.
By the lake we shared a laugh, trout swam in crystal blue.
A quiet hug, the world stood still, it felt like it, was made for two.
You stopped the car, look there, a bear! I fumbled for the lens in haste,
The photo blurred, but still we laughed, as elk rushed past in wild grace.
So many snapshots, none quite right, and yet they live inside me still,
A tapestry of love and light, woven by the mountain hills.
